The seven artists in this mini-exhibition took the idea of a short production period, a provided architectural space, and it’s anomalies, as well as my intention to pay homáge to the Italian conceptualist Piero Manzoni to create and bring out of their archives artworks with the ‘idea’, in mind. Their individual directions in dealing with some of his ideas and concepts, production methodologies and his artist-produced gallery present lucid and and quickly made art, but no less indicative of their own personal standards.

 

I recently re-hung the a Manzoni print (serigraph) I have at home to a wall I constantly view. Thinking about the concepts he elucidates I was asked to curate an exhibition of anything, or anyone in a space for one week. The curatorial attached itself to the Manzoni and I contacted several artists hoping that seven, A-G as in the print, would take the opportunity to provide a work in relation to the ideas that abound in European conceptualism in the 50s and directing them to the image of Manzoni which emanates from the print portfoli 8 Tavole di accertamento_8 Tables of assessment_1958.

 

The past three weeks have been interesting in dialogue with the artists, not only about their work and ideas, but delving into the history of artists in Europe during the mid-20th century.Immaterial Pictorial Sensibility (IPS) is the result. Art about ideas.
